An apparatus for a machine for packing chickens with legs cut off at the joint into plastic bags, which machine is arranged at the lower end of a movement arm and is moved by means of the latter into two operating positions, to pick up the chickens by the joints of their legs cut off at the joint individually from a transport means and to insert the chickens into the plastic bags with subsequent pressing of the legs cut off at the joint onto the bodies to which they append, is characterised in that the apparatus consists of a single shaping part (3) which can be pivoted into two switch positions (8 or 9), in that the shaping part (3) is designed in such a way that it is suitable in one switch position (8) for picking the chickens up from the transport means and, once they have been inserted into the plastic bags, for compressing the legs and releasing the bones of the joint from their mounting device in the other switch position (9). <IMAGE>
