PURPOSE:To achieve an improved luminous flux rising characteristic of a fluorescent lamp at low temperatures by charging the glass tube with a mixture gas of neon and argon. CONSTITUTION:The diameter of the glass tube is adjusted to at most 17.5mm and the glass tube is charged with a mixture gas composed of argon and 10-70% neon. As a result, the luminous flux rising characteric of the fluorescent lamp during its lighting at low temperatures is improved from that of a conventional lamp charged with argon alone by at least about 10%. Even at low temperatures, it is possible to increase the optical output of this lamp to a level enabling original copies for a facsimile or similar apparatus to be read about 10 minutes after lighting of the lamp. A glass tube with a tube diameter exceeding 17.5mm can not be practically used because it is not suitable for the recent trend toward reducing the size of facsimiles. |
