In the supply line of the marking material from a pressurised supply container to the applicator (spray gun) a variable resistance is installed whose setting member is operated via a servomotor connected to a control. The control forms a signal describing the desired flow rate from enered values for line width and thickness and from a speed measuring device's signal. The desired flow rate is compared with the actual flow rate to produce an error signal that controls the servomotor.
