The roller or galette (1) according to the invention can be used both in the production and in a subsequent treatment, especially heat treatment, of foil-like sheet-like structures and of strand-like material, for example in the processing of man-made silk, glass filaments or foil tapes in spinning, drafting or texturing machines. The roller or galette (1) has, on the inside, a hermetically closed hollow body which is partially filled with a heat-transfer fluid which is solely under its own vapour pressure. The hermetically closed hollow body is designed as a pipe coil (14). The pipe portions connected to one another by means of pipe bends (16) extend to and fro in a meander-like manner between the axial ends of the roller or galette (1). The entire pipe coil (14) is shaped in annular form and is preferably connected to a copper layer (13) introduced as a short-circuit ring for induction heating. Rollers or galettes (1) according to the invention can be produced more favourably than those previously known, and moreover their filling with the heat-transfer fluid and their sealing necessitate less outlay. <IMAGE>
