PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of a fuel electrode caused by the open air by installing a supply passage and exhaust passage of anolyte at the left end or the right end of a fuel cell, and rotating the cell so that both passages locate in the upper part of the cell when operation of the cell is stopped. CONSTITUTION:A hydrazine-air fuel cell is costructed to generate power by installing a supply passage 1 and an exhaust passage 2 which are commonly used by each unit cell in the same direction as a unit cell stacked direction to supply and exhaust electrolyte, fuel liquid or anolyte with a pump. The supply passage 1 and the exhaust passage 2 are installed at the right end and the fuel cell is operated. When operation is stopped, the cell is rotated 90 deg. so that the supply passage 1 and the exhaust passage 2 locate in the upper part while the pump is stopped. Since the anolyte is left in a fuel electrode chamber 4, entering of the open air is prevented. Thereby, deterioration of the fuel electrode caused by dissolution of noble metal catalyst in fuel electrode and liquid short is prevented and life of the cell is increased. |
