A shaft (11) is mounted rotatably in the frame of the belt retractor. A belt reel (7) receiving the belt band is arranged on the shaft (11). A spring (15a) takes effect between the shaft (11) and the frame and loads the shaft (11) for the purpose of winding up the belt band. A comfort mechanism (8) is driven via the shaft (11). The shaft is provided with a drive-side connecting extension (14) for coupling to the comfort mechanism (8) and with a connecting extension (15) for connection to the spring (15a) at its opposite end. The shaft (11) is an extended composite part consisting of a plastic part (13) including the connecting extensions (14, 15) and shaped in one piece and of an extended metal part (12) which is arranged coaxially with the plastic part and which forms a composite structure with the latter. <IMAGE>
