Process for the preparation of aqueous solutions of alkali metal acrylate

Aqueous solutions of alkali metal acrylates are prepared at room temperature by converting acrylic acid with alkaline earth metal carbonate into alkaline earth metal acrylate in the presence of CO2 and converting the alkaline earth metal acrylate into alkali metal acrylate by double decomposition with alkali metal carbonate or alkali metal sulphate, and the resulting alkaline earth metal carbonate or alkaline earth metal sulphate is removed. The acrylic acid can be stabilised by Cu(II) ions.
