A description is given of a thermostatically controlled mixing valve of the type in which an element made of expanding material is supported, on the one hand, against a desired-value setting spindle and, on the other hand, against a hollow-cylindrical valve closing part guided axially in the housing. In the region of the cold-water inlet opening of the housing, the valve closing part is provided in known manner with a radially extending valve seating surface interacting in the manner of a stop with a seating surface of the housing. In the region of the hot-water inlet openings, on the other hand, the valve closing part is of slide-like configuration, allowing it to be pushed past the hot-water inlet opening beyond the full closing position. It is thereby possible to manage without a safety spring in the force path between the element made of expanding material and the desired-value setting spindle and to increase the strength of the spring which holds the valve closing part in non-positive contact with the element made of expanding material.
