Parent patent describes a container for transporting and storing irradiated fuel rods of nuclear fuel elements. The container is of cast iron, esp. speriodal cast iron, or cast steel acting as shielding and is subdivided into compartments by a grating, into which the individual fuel rods are inserted, each in a surrounding protective tube, but otherwise densely packed close together. The storage shafts thus correspond approximately each to one fuel element. - In the patent of addition, the fuel rods are placed directly (i.e. without surrounding tubes) in the storage shafts or compartments.
