Different sections of the clarinet longitudinal bore have different volumes. The bore portion 2 to 6cm above the a port is provided with at least one steep restriction which reduces the volume by 30-300 cu.mm. It is pref. formed by a dowel in the bore wall and extending into the bore. The portion 1-3.5cm above the a port may be provided with at least one sudden volume increase of 100-600 cu.mm., pref. formed by a blind bore in the long bore wall.
