<p>Deriv. is obtd. by (a) reaction of 3,4-dimethoxy cinnamic acid with a 2-halo aniline, e.g. 2-chloro or 2-bromo aniline, in inert organic solvent under reflux in presence of a hydrating agent, such as a chlorinated deriv., and an organic base e.g. triethylamine or pyridine; (b) carboxylation of the halo-anilide formed with CO at above 1.5 kg/sq.cm. pressure in aq. medium with an ether co-solvent e.g. dioxan or tetrahydro furan, in presence of nickel-tetra-carbonyl as catalyst and an alkali salt of an organic acid, e.g. Na or K acetate, at 10-150 deg.C.</p> |
