Especially in the case of moulds for plastic products, it is desirable that these moulds have a surface pattern which is transferred to the product. The pattern is produced by etching. The pattern is transferred phototechnically, and the invention constitutes an improvement of the process for carrying out this transfer. Using an exposed screen fabric, the pattern is transferred to a film which, after coating, is provided with an adhering layer. The coating is applied to the surface which is to be etched, after which the film is removed and etching can be initiated.
