The pulse train is transmitted by means of a pulse transformer (1), the primary winding (1a) of which is connected via a periodically actuatable switch (4) to a power supply and the secondary winding (1b) of which is connected via a blocking diode (7) to the triggering electrode of the thyristor (8). In addition, a steep pulse, which is generated with the discharge of a capacitor (14) via the primary winding (1a), can be added on at the beginning of each pulse. To reduce the power loss, a current stabilising circuit (2), which is used for keeping the firing current constant, is provided in the primary circuit. This also allows the transformation ratio of the pulse transformer (1) to be increased. <IMAGE>
