In an ignition distributor for an internal combustion engine diode gates (8, 10; 9, 11) lie between a common ignition voltage line (5) on the one hand and the spark plugs (6, 7) on the other for the purpose of high voltage decoupling of ignition voltage line (5) and control signal generators (12, 13) and for the making of individual contactless connections of the spark plugs (6, 7) to the ignition voltage line (5); the control signal generators (12, 13) generate steep high voltage pulses, which attain the breakdown voltage of the spark plugs (6, 7) before the ignition pulse commences. <IMAGE>
