The invention relates to a manually operated machine for preparing espresso coffee, which comprises a fixed container 2 having a chamber intended to receive the coffee powder and comprising a perforated bottom disc 5 capable of moving axially in the container, a filter piston 20 mounted on a support 18 and which can move axially in the container 2 to compress the coffee powder therein and radially to move away from the container in a lateral direction, means 6 of heating and supplying the water to the container through the perforated bottom disc 5, means for dispensing the coffee brew passing through the filter piston 20 and a spatula 35 for automatic discharge of the solid coffee residues when the bottom disc is moved upwards and when the filter piston is moved away from the container. <IMAGE>
