PURPOSE:Not to perform the automatic density adjustment hereafter for the purpose of preventing the disturbance of picture quality due to an error when the error is increased, by detecting the error of the automatic density adjustment and inhibiting the automatic density adjustment if the error of the automatic density adjustment using a target image of a certain reference is increased. CONSTITUTION:In a ROM6, a program is stored which inhibits the automatic density adjustment in case of the increase of the error of the automatic density adjustment to perform the density adjustment with a certain level automatically independently of the output of a density reader 2. A CPU4 performs such control that the automatic density adjustment based on the variable density of the target image developed on a photosensitive drum is not performed and the density adjustment is performed forcibly with a certain level if the error of the automatic density adjustment is increased. If the error of the automatic density adjustment is increased, the density is not controlled automatically still in this state but the automatic density adjustment is inhibited, thereby eliminating the disturbance of copy quality due to the error. |
