PURPOSE:To prevent crystallization of 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazale without damaging curing or curing promotion of epoxy resins, by using 4,4'-methylene-bis-(2- ethyl-5-methylimidazole). CONSTITUTION:2-Ethyl-4-methylimidazole shown by the formula I useful as a curing agent or a curing promotor of epoxy resin is blended with novel 4,4'- methylene-bis-(2-ethyl-5-methylimidazole) in a weight ratio of the compound shown by the formula II: the compound shown by the formula I =0.1:99.9-3.0: 97.0, so that the compound shown by the formula I is prevented from crystallizing, and the compound is kept in a liquid state for a long period without exerting bad influence on epoxy resins when they are cured. The novel substance shown by the formula II is obtained by heating the compound shown by the formula I with formaldehyde of a methylating agent in the presence of a catalyst.
