PURPOSE:To obtain a high-density recording medium having excellent magnetic characteristics, durablility, etc. by providing a magnetic layer formed by dispersing the magnetic powder subjected to a surface treatment by two kinds of titanium coupling agents contg. alkoxy groups and lipophilic groups respectively at different quantities in a binder having a hydrophilic polar group. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic powder consisting of a ferromagnetic oxide, ferromagnetic metal, etc. is subjected to the surface treatment by the 1st titanium coupling agent having the four alkoxy groups and the two lipophilic groups and the 2nd titanium coupling agent having one alkoxy group and the three lipophilic groups. The magnetic layer consisting of such surface-treated magnetic power dispersed into the binder obtd. by introducing the hydrophilic polar group into a polyurethane resin, polyester resin, cellulose deriv., etc. is formed on a base. The packing density of the magnetic powder is thus increased and the magnetic recording medium which is improved in the wear resistance and powder dislodgement together with the magnetic characteristics such as residual magnetic flux and squareness ratio and is suitable for high-density recording is obtd.
