PURPOSE:An arteriosclerotic agent that contains, as an active ingredient, cycloartenol ferulate, thus showing good activity of reducing lipids and further causing no problem on safety (hepatic disorder) on long period administration. CONSTITUTION:The objective drug contains, as an active ingredient, cycloartenol ferulate which is isolated from gamma-oryzanol. The compound has actions not only of inhibiting lipid absorption from intestines like gamma-oryzanol, but also of promoting the catabolism and excretion of lipids in blood, resulting in high reduction in free cholesterol, neutral lipid and arteriosclerotic index, because it simultaneously increases the level of HDL-cholesterol without hepatic troubles.
