PURPOSE:To attain efficient character recognition, by obtaining the measurement of degree of approximation for any two characters from the similarity between the standard patterns. CONSTITUTION:A recognition processor 4 calculates the similarity between an unknown pattern transmitted from a character observing section 3 and the standard pattern of a standard pattern storage device 5 and transmits a character code giving the maximum similarity to a microprocessor 20 of a testing processor 10 from an output line 6. The processor 20 calculates 30 for the similarity as to the standard pattern from the storage device for two character codes and a character code of a prescribed order in an item of a dictionary and obtains a key item number of the result of word recognition. The bit number of a corresponding flag table is obtained out of a bit number conversion table in a memory 13 and the bit number of the flag is checked corresponding to the fixed item out of the character code train of the result of recognition. Even if the result of character recognition is not correct, a word is read out from a dictionary stored in a memory 14 for performing correction correctly. |
