<p>PURPOSE:To improve strength of a honeycomb filter without impairing heat resistance, thermal shock resistance, and porous structure of the honeycomb filter by impregnating a soln. of a compound which forms an oxide of a nonmetallic element by calcination into the external peripheral surface of the honeycomb filter, and calcining the impregnated material. CONSTITUTION:The soln. of the compd. which forms the oxide of a nonmetallic element by calcination such as water glass, silcate or phosphate of a metal, or aluminosilicate, etc. is impregnated into the external periphery of a honeycomb filter 2 for collecting fine particles in the exhaust gas from a Diesel engine to a range of 0.1-30mm. depth from the surface, wherein said filter is formed to a columnar shape contg. many cells 1 distributed in the axial direction, closed alternately at their outlet or inlet. The impregnated filter is dried and then calcined at 600-1,400 deg.C.</p> |
