BLOCK COPOLYMER, AND ITS PRODUCTION AND USE

PURPOSE:To obtain a block copolymer having excellent surface activity, by completely conducting a first-stage cationic ring-opening polymerization of a 2- oxazoline compound in the presence of a specified polymerization initiator and conducting a second-stage cationic ring-opening polymerization of another specified 2-oxazoline compound in the same reaction system in a specified manner. CONSTITUTION:A first-stage cationic ring-opening polymerization of a 2-oxazoline compound of formula II (wherein R2 is H or the like) or a 2-oxazoline compound of formula III (wherein R3 is a 4-18C alkyl or the like) is completely conducted by using a 1:2 reaction product between a 2,2'-bisoxazoline compound of formula I (wherein Y is a 1-18C alkylene or the like) and a cation polymerization catalyst such as a sulfate or sulfonate ester. When the first-stage polymerization involves a compound of formula II, a second-stage cationic ring- opening polymerization involves a compound of formula III. When the first-stage polymerization involves a compound of formula III, the second-stage polymerization involves a compound of formula II. In this way, the purpose block copolymer can be obtained.
