TISSUE CULTURE OF AKIKARAMATSU (THALICRUM HYPOLEUCUM)

PURPOSE:AKIKARAMATSU (Thalicrum minus L. var. hypoleum Miq) is subjected to tissue culture using a liquid medium to enable high-efficiency and large- amount production of berberine which has been used as a useful ingredient. CONSTITUTION:The liquid medium used is prepared by adding at least one of plant hormons of naphthalenacetic acid and benzyladenine to a medium for plant tissue culture such as Murashige-Skoog medium, Linsmaier and Skoog medium, Gamborg B-5 medium or Mitsui M-9 medium. a callus of AKIKARAMATSU is inoculated to the liquid medium and aerobically cultured in dark at 20-30 deg.C. The callus proliferates and liberates more than 80% of the berberine it has formed, into the liquid medium.
