PURPOSE:To control the crystal structure of an ingot and the alloying components by placing plural consumable electrodes horizontally or downward over a casting mold so that extension lines of the electrodes intersect each other and by generating arc between the electrodes and between the electrodes and the casting mold or the ingot to be remelted in vacuum or an inert atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Two consumable electrodes 1, 2 are placed downward over a water-cooled steel casting mold 3 so that extension lines of the electrodes 1, 2 intersect each other. An ingot 4 in the mold 3 is melted in vacuum or an inert atmosphere by generating arc between the electrodes 1, 2 and between the electrodes 1, 2 and the ingot 4 or the mold 3. At this time, the temp. of a molten pool is controlled by regulating voltage and electric current.
