PURPOSE:To prevent the strong adhesion of impurities to the exposed part of a screen, by fixedly providing the screen in an inclined or horizontal state and separating a tank into upper and lower chamber to flow raw water containing impurites from the lower chamber to the upper chamber. CONSTITUTION:Raw water is flowed into a tank 1 from a raw water inflow port 3 to pass between a partition wall 4 and the wall of the tank 1 and flowed upwardly to pass through a screen 2 to remove impurities and enters an upper chamber to be discharged from a discharge port 7. The impurities separated by the screen 2 are accumulated in a lower chamber 5 and water containing said impurities is discharged from a discharge pipe 8 and impurities having specific gravity larger than that of water are settled to the bottom part of the lower chamber 5 while ones having specific gravity smaller than that of water are accumulated under the screen 2. When the water level 21 between the partition wall and the tank wall becomes higher than the water level 22 in the upper chamber by the clogging degree of the screen 2, this state is detected by a float switch 10 and an underwater pump 9 is operated to discharge the impurities while crushing the same.
