METHOD FOR PREVENTING FRETTING CORROSION BY ELECTROLESS PLATING

PURPOSE:To prevent the fretting corrosion of the pressure-welded surfaces of plural pieces of a metallic material by coating the surfaces of the pieces to be pressure-welded with a chemically stable metal by electroless plating before the pieces are fixed by pressure welding. CONSTITUTION:When two or more pieces (machine parts) of a metallic material used under conditions under which the occurrence of fretting corrosion is expected are fixed by pressure welding, the surfaces of the pieces to be pressure- welded are coated with a chemically stable metal or alloy by electroless plating to prevent the fretting corrosion of the pressure-welded surfaces of the pieces as well as to improve the fatigue strength of the pieces themselves. The kind and thickness of the chemically stable metal or alloy are experimentally decided according to the kind of the metal of the pieces, conditions during pressure welding and the roughness of the surfaces to be pressure-welded.
