PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a tape producing device without deteriorating a function which prevents the shrinkage of a magnetic tape, by using a cooling roll in addition to a vapor-deposition roll to cool the tape. CONSTITUTION:A source tape 14 is travelled at the same speed as the barrel part of a vapor-deposition roll 9, and the metallic steam 12 is deposited on the surface of a tape 14. In this case, the temperature of the tape 14 is increased by the radiant heat of a crucible 11 and the heat of the steam 12. Thus the tape 14 is extended. However, the tape 14 is shifted with contact with the roll 9 and the heat of the tape 14 is transmitted to the roll 9. In addition, the heat of a magnetic tape 14a is absorbed by a cooling roll 15. This prevents the shrinkage of the tape 14a after it is taken up. Furthermore, the roll 9 can be miniaturized to attain miniaturization of a tape producer.
