PURPOSE:To enhance the volumetric efficiency of a vane type compressor, by forming the terminal end of a suction port at a position which is advanced in the rotational direction of vanes from a position corresponding to a rear vane which has come to define a vane chamber having its maximum volume. CONSTITUTION:The starting end suction opening of a vane rotary type compressor is formed such that coolant is fed into a vane chamber at the initial stage of every suction stroke. Further, the terminal end suction opening 8c of the compressor is formed at a position shifted in the rotational direction from a rear vane 5b which has come to have a position where a vane chamber 7a has a maximum volume, and is communicated with a vane chamber just before the initiation of compression stroke of the latter and a vane chamber next to the former chamber. Accordingly, even after a vane chamber has its maximum volume, it may sucks coolant so that the volumetric efficiency of the compressor is enhanced.
