[Also in Group VII] In a sewing machine a rock-shaft 53 and a rock frame 54 oscillate about parallel axes which are slightly offset from each other. A cylindrical member 72, carried at each end of frame 54, has a conical pin 71 at its inner end and a conical recess 78, the axis of which, is offset from the axis of pin 71, at its outer end. Member 72 has a head 74 formed with flats which engage ledges 76 on frame 54 to prevent rotation of member 72, and the latter is locked by a grub-screw 77. The pins 71 enter recesses 70 in the ends of shaft 53, and the recesses 78 receive conical-ended pins carried by a member 18. One of the latter pins is non- adjustably fixed, and the other one, pin 86, has a head 87 which screws into a bore 85. Pin 86 is locked by a grub-screw 88. To adjust for end play, screws 77 and 88 are loosened and head 87 is turned till shaft 53 rides correctly on pins 71, when screw 77 is tightened. Head 87 is then further adjusted till frame 54 rides correctly, when screw 88 is tightened. |
