PURPOSE:To kill useless vegetables effectively, by using an antibiotic substance, phosalacin, and/or its derivative as an acitve component of the herbicide in combination with a carrier acceptable for agricultural use. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula (M<1> and M<2> are cation of H, Na, K, Li, Cu, Mg, Ca, Zn, Ni, Mn, NH4, or 1-4C alkyl, lower hydroxy or lower alkenyl ammonium; A is hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrobromic acid, phosphoric acid, perchloric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, monochloroacetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, or trifluoroacetic acid; n is 0, 0.5 or 1; p is the reciprocal of the valence of M<1>; q is the reciprocal of the valence of M<2>), preferably its sodium, potassium or amine salt, is used as an active component of the objective herbicide. Effective amount of one or more kinds of the compound is used in combination with a carrier acceptable for agricultural use. Useless vegetables can be killed effectively by contacting said vegetables with an effective amount of said compound.
