Method for producing particulate material and device for carrying out the method. According to the method, the material to be comminuted into particulate form, for example in the form of chips, is fed via an axially arranged controllable stopper worm to a rotor which is also controllable, is provided with chambers and rotates in a beater arm ring or blade ring. Here, the filling height of the chambers is controlled as a function of the rotor loading in such a way that a uniform contact pressure onto the beater arms or blades of the material to be comminuted into particulate form is achieved. A further improvement in the contact pressure is produced by the cutting- sequence time which is set as a function of the material and is fixed in each case in such a way that after each cutting process material has sufficient time to spring back so that the following beater arm or the following blade can cut off an equally thick section of material.
