PURPOSE:To facilitate the process of printing by calculating the center of the image of a film from its radius of curvature which is obtained by two-dimensional or one-dimensional detection. CONSTITUTION:When a roller 15 feeds out the film by 0.5mm., a CCD20b picks up the image of the film, which is converted by a CCD driving circuit 21 into 8-bit data showing brightness and stored in a memory area M1 of RAM34. A CPU32 checks whether at least one of picture elements is below a set value or not and when not, the film is conveyed by 0.5mm. and similar operation is repeated. When picture element data below the set value appears, brightness data on each picture element is stored in a memory area M2 of the RAM34 and when it is decided whether the difference in the total of picture element data between the areas M1 and M2 is zero or not, when not, this operation is repeated until the difference becomes zero. When the difference in the total becomes zero, the contour of the image is detected and the radius of curvature of the image is calculated to find the center position of the image.
