PURPOSE:To simplify constitution and to process at a high speed by providing two discriminating steps, and by giving sequential orders to NA-numbers of candidates selected at the first step by using a distance with weight given by respective candidates' dictionary matrix differential at the second step. CONSTITUTION:The first discriminating part 9 adapts a distance D defined by a formula I between a characteristic matrix Fm prepared at a characteristic matrix extracting part 8 and a dictionary matrix Fd prepared in a dictionary 10, and outputs, in the order of smaller value D, NA-numbers of dictionary category names as candidate category. A differential dictionary preparing part 11 forms every two combination of NA-numbers of candidate categories outputted from the first discriminating part, prepares by a formula II a differential dictionary matrix WAB making absolute values of each factor difference of respective category dictionary matrix FdA and FdB as factors, and outputs them together with the dictionary matrix to the second discriminating part. The second discriminating part 12 calculates a weight-attached distance by using the differential dictionary matrix prepared by the differential dictionary preparing part, gives sequential order again, and outputs the highest order category name.
