PURPOSE:To prevent an external appratus side from generating error statue by interrupting reset operation during the transmission of positional data in a position designating device for controlling the position of a cursor. CONSTITUTION:In the position designating device used for the generation of an X, Y coordinate position signal to control the cursor position of a display device, data counted by a CPU74 is supplied to a line driver 94 through a line 100, and when transmission data is outputted from an output line, a data output detecting circuit 92 outputs a detecting signal of ''1'' and an AND gate 86 is disconnected. Even if the operator turns on key switches 10, 12, 14 simultaneously and the system is to be reset, the operation is disconnected by the AND gate and the resetting input from the CPU74 is interrupted. Even if the resetting operation is executed during the transmission of the positional signal of a housing, the external apparatus side can be prevented from generating its error state.
