PURPOSE:To obtain a low-expansion Fe-Ni alloy having superior resistance to weld hot cracking by restricting the amount of S in a steel to a very low value and controlling the amount of Al. CONSTITUTION:The composition of a low-expansion Fe-Ni alloy is composed of, by weight, 34.5-37.5% Ni, <0.002% S, <0.02% Al and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. It is necessary that the amounts of S and Al in the composition are within the range defined by points A, B, C, D, E and F (coordinate as indicated) in the diagram.
