PURPOSE:To aim at reduction in the axial length of a starter, by setting up a support shaft whose both ends are supported on a starter housing so as to pierce through both axial centers of a motor and a cylindrical drive shaft, while making the drive shaft hold the drive shaft free of rotation. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of a support shaft 1 are locked to a spot between a starter housing 12 and an end frame 11, while a cylindrical armature shaft 2 of a motor M and a cylindrical drive shaft 3 are set up on the same axis of this support shaft 1 via plural bearings 4. And, turning force of the armature shaft 2 is constituted of making it transmittable to a pinion 13 via a sun gear 2a installed in the said shaft 2, a planetary gear 10 installed in the drive shaft 3, a pin 4 on this shaft 3 and a helical spline part 6 plus a clutch outer 7. With this constitution, a center bracket for holding the drive shaft 3 rotatably is abolishable so that the axial length of a starter is reducible as long as a portion for that. |
