A catheter having at least one longitudinal channel for the examination and/or treatment of vessels carrying body fluid and having a sealing device provided on the free end and expandable at least to the width of the vessel, is to be improved such that examinations and/or treatments with the catheter can be carried out, where possible, with one and the same catheter and even in vessels or vascular sections through which body fluid flows. The catheter (1) is completely closed at its free end (2). A longitudinal channel (4) which in the region (5) of the free end (2) in front of the sealing device (7) has an opening (11) for emergence of a treatment agent into the vascular region in front of the sealing device (7), that is, on the side facing the therapist, is provided. Furthermore, the sealing device (7) of the sealing catheter (1) comprises an annular cuff (7) which is tightly fitted on the edges (6) and is provided in the region (5) of the free end (2) on the outside of the sealing catheter (1). The annular chamber (8) thus formed communicates with the longitudinal channel (3) of the sealing catheter (1) via an opening (9), provided within the length of the annular cuff (7), in the sealing catheter wall. <IMAGE>
