PURPOSE:To permit continuous operation of a filtration device for a long period by removing deposited cake on the surface of a filter by inserting a ball through the filter by the flow of sample water and recovering the flow rate in the filter. CONSTITUTION:Sample water is filtered by a filter 6. When the filtration rate decreases, gas is fed from a gas feeding source 22 to a collector 19, and a ball 21 is pushed into the filter 6 from the collector 19 through a pipe 17, and deposited cake 35 on the surface of the filter 6 is wiped off. Then, the ball is transferred to a collector 20 by the effect of the flow of the sample water through a discharging pipe 8 and a pipe 18. The gas is fed from the gas feeding source 22 to the collector 20 to transfer the ball 21 from the collector 20 to a collector 19 through the filter 6. The sample water remaining in the pipe 15 is discharged through the collector 20 by adjusting opening and closing timing of valves 9, 16, 25, 26, 31, and 32. Then, continuous filtration of the sample water is executed through the filter 6.
