Nuclear power station with emergency power supply

It is normal in nuclear power stations for a nuclear reactor (10) to feed a steam circuit by means of a steam turbine (9) for driving a generator (11). An emergency power unit ensures the provision of the electrical energy required for the emergency cooling of a nuclear reactor when there is a failure of the electricity grid fed by the generator (11). The emergency power unit comprises an auxiliary steam boiler (1, 2), and a quick-start steam power engine (26, 27). The auxiliary steam boiler (1, 2) is preheated in normal operation of the reactor (10). <IMAGE>
