962,201. Valves. BERNHARDT APPARATEBAU G.m.b.H. & CO. Jan. 15, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 1739/63. Heading F2V. A valve for the inflation of a flexible article, such as a buoyant marine lifesaving apparatus, has a displaceable valve shank 2 provided with a mouthpiece 3 and co-operating with a seal 17 of elastic material, a spring 15 urging the valve to closed position. The spring 15 also applies pressure to the seal 17 through a washer 16 while a second spring 20 loads a pin 22 forming a bayonet type connection with a slot 23 in the housing. The spring 20 may be compressed to enable the shank to be withdrawn from the housing. Alternatively, a grub screw may be used in place of the pin 22. Pressure inside the article acts through recesses 19 in a collar 6 on the underside of the seal 17 so that the latter may be lifted past ports 13 in the valve shank against the action of the spring 15 to act as a relief valve. During inflation with lung power, the ports 13 are pushed below the seal 10 at each air inflating action. Synthetic plastic material may be used for the main parts of the valve. |
