A hydropneumatic pressure cylinder consists of a hydraulic cylinder (4) and a pneumatic cylinder (2) arranged behind it, the piston rod (7) of which projects into the hydraulic piston (5) and there actuates a balancing valve (14). In the hydraulic cylinder (4) an annular piston (12) is mounted so as to be displaceable on the hydraulic piston rod (11). The annular piston (12) is acted upon by the force of an annular-piston spring (13) and by means of compressed air and supplies the energy for the rapid stroke. The pneumatic cylinder (2) is connected to a pre-stroke line (23) and a return-stroke line (29) in which an adjustable restrictor valve (25) is arranged. The rapid-stroke speed is controlled by adjusting the restrictor valve (25). <IMAGE>
