PURPOSE:To prevent wear of a magnetic tape and wear of a sliding member by forming a ceramic coating layer on a face which the magnetic tape is slided on and setting the surface ruggedness of the foundation face of this layer to <=1mum to keep the contacting state between the magnetic tape and the sliding member stable. CONSTITUTION:With respect to the magnetic tape sliding member of a VTR, the ceramic coating layer is provided on the sliding face of the sliding member, for example, a rotary drum 13A for the purpose of improving slide characteristics between the rotary drum 13A and a magnetic tape 3, and the surface ruggedness of the foundation face of this ceramic coating layer is set to <=1mum, and thus, this sliding member is very effective in case that the magnetic tape, especially, a vapor-deposited tape adheres easily to the sliding member and is easy to wear.
