<p>A multistage resonant reciprocating compressor having opposed pistons (72-75) that are driven by a plunger unit (32). The plunger unit (32) is suspended between a pair of spaced apart flexure springs (35) and is electrically coupled to a linear motor (26) mounted between the springs (35). The forces acting on the cylinder piston located on one side of the plunger unit (32) are balanced against the piston forces acting on the other side of the unit (32) and the stiffness of the flexure springs (35) arranged so that the natural frequency of the plunger (32) is at or near the exciting frequency of the motor (26).</p> |
