Stable dispersion of an organic polymer characterized by the polymerizate of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer such as an alkyl (meth)acrylate which is dispersed in a polyepoxide as a continuous phase, optionally in the presence of a dispersion stabilizer defined by the polymerizate of at least one vinyl monomer and a vinylized adduct of a polyepoxide. A process for preparing the stable dispersion is set forth which upgrades the toughness of cured polyepoxides without sacrificing other properties by lowering the dispersion viscosity, increasing the softening temperature of the matrix, and controlling the size and distribution of the dispersed particles. The dispersions are useful as powder coatings, fiber reinforced laminates, molding resins, and adhesives.
|
