The invention relates to a control arrangement for positioning a drive as a function of reference variable values variable with time. The type of control involved is preferably that of the roll gap of a profile rolling machine for the production of profiled workpieces. In order to compensate the lag error of the driving cylinder for the roll gap, an additional actuating signal is impressed on the control circuit in an open control loop, this actuating signal being generated as a function of the rate of change of the desired values. This an inverse signal which is combined additively with the output signal of a controller and, in the case of changes in the desired values, delivers a superproportional actuating signal. In this way, the lag error can be reduced to such an extent that very high accuracy is achieved. <IMAGE>
