PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has high S/N and is free from scinting and chipping of a back coat layer by providing the back coat layer formed by dispersing TiO2 having specific particle sizes with a resin curable by radiation on the rear surface of a base. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer having <=0.08mum surface roughness is provided on the front surface of a plastic film base and a back coat layer is provided on the rear surface of the base. The back layer of such magnetic recording medium consists of the TiO2 of 0.04-0.5mum average particle sizes dispersed in the binder of a radiation curing type, by which the intended magnetic recording layer is obtd. The binder is selected from the resins having acrylic double bonds, maleic double bonds and allyl double bonds and the coercive force of the magnetic layer is preferably >=1,000 Oe.
