SMECTIC LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

摘要

PURPOSE:To perform stable writing operation by using an oriented film whose angle specified by a specific expression is larger than a specific angle when an image is written by forming a light scattering domain by thermo-optic effect. CONSTITUTION:When the image is written by forming the light scattering domain by thermo-optic effect in liquid crystal which is in smectic intermediate phase in a specific temperature range, the oriented film whose angle alpha difined by alpha=(contact angle of water)-(contact angle of in-use liquid crystal) is >=55 deg. is used. This oriented film used any oriented film used generally of a TN type liquid-crystal element which uses nematic liquid crystal as far as said angle alpha is >=55 deg.. In general, a vertical and a horizontal oriented film are used in combination with specific composition.
