The subject of the application is a hydraulic vehicle brake system with brake power booster and antilock control by means of antilock control valves and at least one closed brake circuit, on the brake master cylinder piston of which an admission pressure set by a brake valve acts. In addition, a valve arrangement which, when actuated, separates the antilock control valves from the brake master cylinder and connects them to the admission pressure, is connected upstream of the antilock control valves. This change-over is brought about in the presence of an antilock control signal and/or in the event of a predetermined deflection of the brake pedal or of a brake master cylinder piston. When the vehicle is stopped, this change-over is reversed so that the driver can detect, by way of the brake pedal, whether the brake system is in order. <IMAGE>
