<p>An electric power steering apparatus particularly adapted for small mounting spaces, such as a front wheel drive vehicle. The apparatus includes an electric motor as a driving source thereof, wherein a reducer is coupled to a third steering shaft of a manual steering torque transmission mechanism and a current through the electric motor is controlled in accordance with the steering torque applied to the manual steering torque transmission mechanism based on the driver's steering operation, thereby to suppress the motor temperature below a predetermined level. The electric power steering apparatus includes at least one safety device such as a control means to control the load current not to exceed a predetermined value.</p> |
