PURPOSE:To provide a composite fiber having excellent antistaticity, producible in high efficiency, and composed of a core component consisting of a copolyester copolymerized with a small amount of a compound containing alkali metal sulfonate group, and containing a small amount of a specific metallic compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective composite fiber is composed of (A) a core component consisting of a polyester composed of (i) a copolyester copolymerized with a compound having alkali metal sulfonate group (e.g. 5-sodium sulfoisophthalic acid) in an amount of 0.5-3mol% based on the whole acid component, (ii) 15X10<-4>-40X10<-4>mol of one or more glycol-soluble metallic compound (preferably acetate) selected from a Mg compound, a Mn compound and a Zn compound based on 1mol of the acid component of the polyester and preferably (iii) 0.5-15wt% polyalkylene glycol compound (preferably PEG having a molecular weight of 2,000-4,000) and (B) a sheath component consisting of a common polyester.
